Domaine Hudelot-Baillet

Joel Hudelot-Baillet took over from his father Paul Hudelot in 1981,the domaine having originally been established several years earlier. Joel retired in 2004, passed the reins to his son-in-law Dominique Le Guen who had been working at the domaine since 1998. Domaine Hudelot-Baillet is an authentic Chambolle-Musigny estate with cellars in the town as well as holdings entirely within the appellation.

Today the estate is run by Dominique Le Guen, Joel’s son-in-law, who also served as the vineyard manager for Frederic Mugnier. Le Guen began working at his father-in-law’s estate in 1998 and took over the leadership role in 2004.

The estate is practicing the Lutte raisonnée, and putting an emphasis on the work in the vineyards. The grapes are sorted before being destemmed, but not crushed, then given a cold pre-maceration for around 8 days. Dominique starts with punching down but thereafter moves to pumping over, and also likes to use a delestage which he feels is good for extracting tannins from the skins rather than the pips. 50% new oak, estate bottled.

2011: Intense aromas of black cherry and cassis with hints of smoke. Crisp palate with long pepper finish 2013: "'There are nine barrels of the 2013 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru les Charmes this year. It has a natural, delineated bouquet with brambly red fruit and a light floral scents that possess natural charm. The palate is very intense with keen line of acidity. This a vivacious Charmes with plenty of energy and tension throughout, from start to finish. Glorious!" Neal Martin
