Maison Pagnotta

Umberto Pagnotta established the domain in the 1970s in Rully, exclusively producing wines from 12 acres of vine within this appellation.

Today, the vineyards span over 82 acres and craft delightful wines across Bouzeron, Santenay, Mercurey, Givry, Maranges and regional appellations such as Hautes-Côtes de Beaune. Now situated in the heart of Chagny, on the border of Côte de Beaune and Côte Chalonnaise, Domaine Pagnotta was purchased by the Chanzy group located in Bouzeron in 2017. The Chanzy group's total holdings comprise 197 acres, covering over three districts.

Throughout the year, great attention is devoted to the vineyards to respect the environment and produce disease-free grapes that ripen perfectly at harvest time. The vinification process involves de-stemming, meticulous sorting, light pneumatic pressing, and temperature-controlled tanks to ensure optimum quality. The vineyards are now certified at High Environmental Value (HVE) level 3.

The name "Fussière" is derived from the ancient French “Faisse” or “Faissa” which means "land strip", referring to the terracing on this slope.

The soil of "La Fussière" is rich in marl; there is gray and blue marl covered by calcareous scree.

Mercurey, situated in the heart of the Côte Chalonnaise (7.5 miles from Chalon-sur-Saône) is one the foremost appellations of Bourgogne. Protected from moisture-bearing winds, tucked away in its hillsides or stretched along the aptly-named “Golden Valley” the vineyards stretch as far as the neighboring village of Saint-Martin-sous-Montaigu. The AOC status was instituted in 1923.

Estate vines are located in this higher-altitude, south-facing portion. 30 year vines.

Vinification includes de-stemming, careful sorting, light pneumatic pressing and temperature controlled tanks for optimum quality. Tradition also continues to play a major role with punching down, pumping over of the reds twice a day during maceration, in thermo-regulated tanks for 12 to 14 days with punching down twice a day, malolactic fermentation and barrel-ageing for 12 months in 40% new French oak.

2018: "Roasted notes of mocha almost have a minty edge on the nose of this wine before a mix of forest berry radiates fruitiness. The palate comes in with freshness, slightly brushing tannins and a sense of that rounded, fresh forest fruit. On the finish, it's slightly drying but fresh." 91 Points Wine Enthusiast

2019: Expressive wine from a single vineyard with notes of ripe cherry, plum and dark raspberry, accented by hints of crushed rosemary. Nicely concentrated. Round medium bodied with bright minerality, integrated fine tannins with a long and complex finish.
